Doula is a Greek word meaning 'woman caregiver', 'handmaid or 'slave'.
Doulas provide support to the whole family before, during and after birth.
Doulas are not medically trained. They offer practical and emotional support to a woman and her family normally in her own home and in hospital.
Doulas are usually experienced women who have had their own children and who have completed a training course.
If a Doula decided to become a member of Doula UK, they will then go on to complete the recognition process as a mentored Doula and become a recognised Doula.
We support all kinds of families and parenting choices.
I would recommending looking at the Doula UK website for more information about Doulas.
